SKURATOW, Lawrence “Larry” Skuratow
March 7, 2026It is with deep love and gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of our father at the age of 93 at Lakeridge Health Oshawa on Saturday March 7, 2026.
Dad was born and raised on a farm in Manitoba, along with his brothers Tom, George, Harry, Nick, and sisters Helen and Betty. He learned the value of hard work and determination early in life. At just 16 years old, he left home to forge his own path in the world – an independent spirt that would define the rest of his life. His early years took him west to British Columbia where he worked in his brother Tom’s lumber mill. He later moved east, working as a plasterer in Oshawa and then as an assembly worker at General Motors. He later enjoyed a long career with Canada Post retiring as Post Master for Bowmanville and surrounding area.
He was a devoted husband to his beloved Olga, with whom he shared 45 wonderful years of marriage. Though he became a widower 25 years ago and missed the love of his life deeply, he continued forward with strength and independence, carrying her memory with him always.
After 93 remarkable years, Dad was a man full of stories – stories that he loved to share around the dinner table, bringing laughter, reflection, and the occasional life lesson to anyone fortunate enough to listen. Dad was an accomplished wood carver, builder and carpenter – a true master craftsman, always willing to lend his skills and knowledge to projects big and small.
Dad remained active in both body and mind throughout his life. He was resilient, determined and steadfast to the very end. He truly squeezed every drop out of life, an example that continues to inspire all of us who knew and loved him.
He leaves behind his two daughters Michele (Don) and Lawrene (Graham) who will forever cherish his wisdom, humour and unwavering spirit and his grandchildren Lauren (Craig), Ken (Laura), Natasha (Myro) and Jake (Phoebe) and great grandson Griffin (son of Ken and Laura). Dad will be dearly missed by Carolyn, his long-time friend and companion.
Dad…..Love you. Miss you. Bye for now.
