SMITH, Ellery Keith Smith

A member of Bkejwanong Walpole Island First Nation, passed away peacefully in Chatham on Friday, February 27, 2026 at the age of 64. Ellery is the son of the late Earl Sr and Elsie Doris (Blackbird) Smith. Beloved husband of Karen (Cox) Smith. Loving father of Elizabeth, Roy, Matthew, Emma, Ellery, and the late Stephen Smith. Dear grandfather of Sky, Stella, MacKenzie, and Rain. Brother of Ken, Curtis (Vera), Carl (Kathy), Susan, and the late Earl Jr. (Vickie).

Ellery spent his life learning the land and waterways of his home community; he worked as a hunting guide specializing in water fowl for most of his life. He loved spending time outside, enjoying gardening and spending evenings sitting on the beach.

Family and friends are invited to the family home, 1404B River Road South on Walpole Island after 6 pm on Tuesday, March 3 until the funeral on Thursday, March 5 from the Walpole Island Sports Complex at 11 AM. Interment to follow at Highbanks Cemetery.
