It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Iris Hellen Smith (nee Hodgins) at Kemptville District Hospital on Sunday, December 14, 2025 at the age of 93. Iris was born in Semans, Saskatchewan and was the beloved daughter of the late Thomas Osborne Hodgins and Charlotte Evelyn Hodgins (nee Shaw). At the time of her passing she was a resident of Southbridge Kemptville, Long Term Care.
Iris was predeceased by her husband Bert Smith, with whom she shared over fifty years of marriage in Campbell’s Bay, Quebec. She was a devoted mother to Jo-Anne Smith (Steve Strafford) Prescott, Ontario, Jill Smith, Davenport, Florida and was predeceased by her daughter Stacey Smith Robinson (Wayne Robinson) of Cardinal, Ontario.
Being a woman of deep faith and community spirit, Iris was a proud member of St. Andrew’s United Church. She played the organ and contributed tirelessly to Christmas bazaars, luncheons and community volunteering. She shared her passion for teaching as a music teacher at Campbell’s Bay Elementary School and by tutoring countless students outside of school hours. Her love of storytelling shone through in her weekly news contributions to The Equity newspaper in Shawville, Quebec, keeping the Campbell’s Bay community informed for many years.
Iris was a cherished grandmother to Kimberly Telford (Greg Palubiskie), Trina Telford (Ryan Mace), Cory Hobbs and Andrea Hobbs (Curtis Young) and a loving great-grandmother to Brianna Geertsma, Nolan and Leah Mace and Quinn and Kendall Young. She will be fondly remembered by Taylin Robinson and many nieces and nephews.
We extend our sincerest appreciation to the staff of Bayfield Manor, Kemptville, Ontario and Southbridge Kemptville Long Term Care for their dedicated care and support over the past several years.
Funeral Service will take place in summer 2026, with details to be announced by the family at a later date.
