SMITH, Marguerite Grace Smith
January 7, 1934 - September 2, 2025
It is with great sadness after 9 months of suffering with a lonely broken heart my mom Marguerite Smith passed away peacefully with her daughter Jackie by her side in her home in her 92nd year. Marguerite is survived by her daughters Sharleen (Paul) King, Jackie (Marc) Vezina. Grandchildren Kalvin Smith (Carla), Nikki Brown (Terry) and Andrew Vezina. Great-grandchildren Owen Vezina and fiancé, Paige, Gracie Best, Gregory, Karlie and Brady Smith and a great-great-grandson Myles. Gone to be reunited with her loving husband Murray, her son Grant Smith, daughter Judeen Layman and grandsons Michael and Scotty Layman. Marguerite was predeceased by siblings Edith Kydd, Sharon Eller, Donald Williams and Jean Williams. Marguerite is also predeceased by in-laws and spouses Garfield Smith (Mildred Taylor), Douglas Smith (Mary Turnbull), Bryce Smith (Esther Schneller), Bruce Smith (Ruth Moir), Helen Rice (Donald), Marilyn Smith (Bob), Norman Crooker, Clyde Taylor and Bill Watts. Marguerite was predeceased by her parents Gladys (Tisdale) and Norman Williams, mother-in-law Caro Leola (Fox) (Smith) Houseworth, father-in-law Elmer Pomeroy Smith.
Marguerite is also survived by in-laws Carolyn (Smith) (Crooker) Taylor, Josiah Beckwith (J.B.) Smith and wife Elizabeth, Keith Smith and wife Sheila, Alice (Smith) Watts, Gerald Smith and wife Shirley, Doug Lester and many, many nieces and nephews.
Marguerite’s daughter Jackie would like to thank Doris VanDenEeckhout for her many visits and support to Marguerite and the Smith family and also to Dr. Andrew and Dr. Jasmine Gite for granting mom’s wish to end her life at home. Many, many thanks goes out to Care Partners (Team 6) (Johanna, Randi, Leigh-Anne, Kristen, Sarah, and Holly; hopefully I didn’t forget anyone, if so I am sorry) for their amazing services and care. The other services Stella and Victoria. Trish Freeman for the amazing care for my mom. Anna from Bayshore for allowing Mykayla to make mom’s life amazing. All the e-shift nurses Nike, Cindy, Allison, Satveer, Chelsea, Mean, Justina and Julliette for all the amazing care, laughter and playing crazy eights. You gals are amazing.
Donations would be gratefully appreciated to the Canadian Cancer Society and Ronald McDonald House or a charity of your choice. Marguerite’s final journey has been entrusted to Ostrander’s Funeral Home, 43 Bidwell Street, Tillsonburg. Cremation has taken place and a public graveside service of remembrance will take place for Marguerite and Murray on Friday, September 26, 2025 at 11:00 am at the Tillsonburg Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Carriage Hall, 25 Brock Street West, Tillsonburg.
