SMITHSON, James H. Smithson

It is with profound sadness, affection and cherished memories that we announce the passing of James H. Smithson, known fondly to family and friends as Jim, and Skip to some. He passed away peacefully on July 10, 2025, in Windsor, Ontario, where his remarkable journey began on September 23, 1939.

James lived a full and loving life surrounded by family and friends. His story is one of love, laughter, and a zest for life that left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.

Beloved husband of Carolyn for 62 wonderful years. Loving father of Michael (Anne Marie), Wally, and James. Predeceased by his son Mark (2003). Proud grandfather to Mitchell (Chelsea), Megan (Nick), Sofia, and Olivia. His role as husband, father, and grandfather was filled with much pride and joy. He was very proud of his children’s and grandchildren’s accomplishments.

His professional life was characterized by many years of dedication and hard work at Chrysler Canada and the Windsor Raceway. Jim’s interests were as varied as they were passionate. An outdoorsman at heart, he relished in the tranquility of nature, whether it was hunting, fishing, maintaining his impeccable yard or simply sitting on the front porch enjoying the sun’s warmth. Boating along the lakes and rivers gave Jim a sense of serenity and joy, while his immense love for dogs showcased his gentle nature and caring heart.

He was an avid traveler who enjoyed the high seas with his beloved wife, having embarked on an impressive 25 cruises throughout his life. Those who knew him will fondly remember his appreciation for life’s simple joys—a cold beer, a good burger, and a popsicle.

Jim personified humor, love, and friendliness. His infectious smile and laughter could light up a room, and his warm, approachable nature made him a friend to many. His presence brought comfort and cheer. His quick wit could bring a burst of laughter into any conversation.

His beloved wife will forever cherish the memory of always being greeted by Jim with a big smile, open arms, and the words “Here’s my sweetheart”. As we bid farewell to him, we celebrate a man of extraordinary character, a life well-lived, a man well-loved, and a soul that will forever remain a part of the fabric of our lives.

Jim, you will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Your spirit continues to guide us, and your memory will always be a beacon of joy and love in our hearts.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the dedicated Oldcastle team at the Village at St. Clair for their care and compassion for Jim over the past year.
