SOLCZ , Doreen Annie Solcz
January 28, 1935 - July 24, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Doreen Annie Solcz (nee Schisler) on July 24, 2025, at the age of 90. Doreen is now reunited with her beloved husband and best friend, Michael George Solcz (2024), with whom she shared 63 beautiful years filled with love and deep devotion. She is also predeceased by her cherished sisters, Alma Machina (2020) and Helen Sabo (2020).
Born in Regina, Saskatchewan, on January 28, 1935, Doreen was the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Schisler. She later moved to Windsor, Ontario, where she graduated from WD Lowe Secondary School and, at just 20 years old, earned her nursing degree from the Hotel Dieu Jeanne Mance School of Nursing.
Doreen’s deep love for children led her to a fulfilling career in paediatrics at Hotel Dieu Hospital, where she eventually became Head of the Pediatric Ward. In her early years, she also generously volunteered with the Children’s Aid Society, reflecting her lifelong commitment to the well-being of children.
After the birth of her youngest son, Mark, Doreen made the heartfelt decision to step away from her nursing career to become a full-time mother to her four energetic boys, a role she embraced with strength, humor, and unconditional love.
She leaves behind her loving sons: Len (Anna), Marty (Manuela), Michael (Elise), and Mark (Mary). Doreen was a devoted and adored grandmother to Jennifer, Stephanie (Jonathan), Nicholas, Ryan (Steven), Kyrsten, Lauren (Mark), Annie, Chris (Nicole), and Michael, and a proud great-grandmother to Michela, Sienna, Brooklyn, Lincoln, and Adalynn.
She also leaves behind her dear sister-in-law and friend, Agnes Black, along with many loving nieces and nephews. A devoted Roman Catholic, Doreen was a proud member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and St. Cyril’s Methodius Parish. She loved trips to the casino, spontaneous shopping adventures, travel, and sharing laughter with family and friends. Her quick wit and sharp tongue were legendary, endearing her to everyone who knew her.
She continued to miss her beloved dogs, Abby and Perky, and we know she is joyfully reunited with them now. The family extends heartfelt thanks to her wonderful caregivers, Klare, Lillith, Tracey, Reema, Kelly and Maggie, for their devoted care, kindness, and for embracing Doreen’s spirit with love and laughter. We also offer our deepest gratitude to Father Greg Bonin and Father Stephan Amoah-Gyasi and special thanks to Dr. Schumacher, Dr. McFarlane, and the nursing staff at Metropolitan Hospital for their exceptional care in her final hours.
Visitation will take place at Windsor Chapel Banwell Chapel, 11677 Tecumseh Rd. E in Windsor on Tuesday July 29 from 2-5pm and 7-9pm with parish prayers at 4:30pm. A funeral mass will be held at Most Precious Blood Parish, 1947 Meldrum Rd in Windsor, on Wednesday July 30 at 11am with visitation at the church one hour prior to mass. Entombment at Heavenly Rest Cemetery to follow the mass.
Doreen’s legacy of love, humor, and generosity lives on in all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Community Fund for Children at the Windsor-Es Community Foundation.
