SPELLEN, John E. Spellen

It is with great sadness and the fondest of memories that we announce the passing of John Spellen on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, in his 79th year.

John was born in Bristol, England on November 12, 1946, and moved to Canada as a young boy. John was a dedicated hard worker and natural leader, working at General Motors for over 30 years at its head offices in Oshawa and Detroit, retiring in 2001.

John was full of life and had a wonderful sense of humour. An avid outdoorsman, John loved boating and fishing, and was never afraid to tackle the roughest waters. In retirement, he travelled widely and completed his “bucket list” goal of visiting all seven continents.

John will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 55 years, Lynda. A devoted father to Michelle (Warren) and Michael (Jenn), he was also an adoring grandpa to Evan, Emma, and Ethan. John was a brother to David (Jane), Lynne (Mike), Cathie (Tom), Christopher, and predeceased by Peter and Mary-Lou. John will also be remembered fondly by his many nieces and nephews, his lifelong friend Cliff, and his Tuesday Coffee Club.

A special thank you to the doctors and nurses at Peterborough Regional Health Centre, Peritoneal Dialysis Unit for their wonderful care. In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
