SPINA, Anna Spina

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dearest mother, Anna, on Friday, December 5, 2025 at the Algoma Residential Community Hospice (ARCH) at the age of 99.

Beloved wife of the late Giovanni (2012).  Loved mother of Eugenio (Pirjo), Gaetano (Sandra) and Marcello.  Treasured Nonna of Anna-Maria (Jamie Turcotte), John (Crystal), Lisa (Nikolay Belevski), Sara, Joey (Linda), Marisa, Racheal, Cory (Kari) and Matthew. Loved old Nonna of 20 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. Anna is survived by her youngest sister, Giuseppina Guzzo-Bonifacio (Unale), sisters-in-law Rosaria Spina (Cuglietta) and Rosa Spina (Medaglia) of Italy. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews in Canada, United States and Italy.

Anna was born in Terrati (Lago) in Calabria, Italy on October 23, 1926.  She arrived in Canada at Halifax Harbour in December of 1965 to join her husband. She travelled across the ocean with her 3 sons and learned the ways of a new life in Canada with a fierce determination.

Anna was a formidable woman, who was strong and determined. She was well known for her love of walking, no matter the weather. We learned so much from her. All of the grandkids and great grandkids especially loved her signature almond cookies.

A private family service has taken place. Anna will be laid to rest in the mausoleum with her beloved husband Giovanni. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to ARCH would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted to Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758).
