SPINA, Jayne Spina

It is with extremely heavy hearts that the family announces the peaceful passing of Jayne Andrea Spina on February 19, 2026 at Marigold Hospice, Newcastle, with her husband Giovanni (John) by her side.

Jayne and John shared 37 happy years together as husband and wife, travel mates and devoted partners. She will be lovingly remembered by her children Matthew and his wife Michelle and Bradley and his wife Mikaela, who were the center of her life. She was a proud and devoted Mimi to Milo, Eva Jayne and Roman, each of whom brought her immense joy.

Jayne was born in Moncton, NB on September 12, 1961, to John (Moira), the late Gratia (stepmother) and the late Carol Ann Miller Fawcett. She is also survived by her sister Allison Goguen (David), brother Jeffrey Fawcett, sister-in-law Gina Bruno (Carmine) and brother-in-law Dino Spina (Shirley). She was the daughter-in law of the late Rosario and Maria Spina. Jayne will be deeply missed by her aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends whose lives she touched in very meaningful ways.

Jayne’s early school days in Campbellton/Moncton, NB, were followed by UNB in Fredericton for her Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry, followed by the University of Manitoba, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy and where she met John. As pharmacists, Jayne and John eventually made their home in Courtice where they welcomed their two beautiful sons. She had a very fulfilling career as a community pharmacist at Lovell Drugs, a Shoppers Drug Mart franchisee, a hospital pharmacist, and finally finished her career as a Pharmacy Application Analyst in clinical informatics at the Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences. There she focused on transitioning hospitals to automated records. Over the years, Jayne volunteered in many ways and most recently she was president of the Oshawa & District Ostomy Association where she regularly helped people with ostomy concerns while leading the Oshawa support group. Jayne’s kind heart was portrayed in how she helped others and made an impact in their lives.

Jayne was first diagnosed with cancer in 2019 and faced it head-on. Her courage and strength enabled her to live life to the fullest, celebrating with family, friends, and enjoying her love of travel and adventure.

The Spina family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr. Ed Osborne and the Marigold Hospice for their excellent support, as well as all the doctors and nurses at Lakeridge Health who provided exceptional care. A heartfelt thank you is extended to family and friends for their continued love and assistance to Jayne during her illness.

Jayne’s passing will leave a void that will never be filled, but her love for family and friends, and her passion for life right to the end, will remain in our hearts. She will be remembered for her smile, her strength and resilience, her kindness and above all, her devotion to her family. May she enjoy her newest travel with a glass of “vino bianco”.

Donations in Jayne’s memory may be made to Marigold Hospice in Newcastle or Hearth Place Cancer Support Centre in Oshawa.

Visitation will be held at De Stefano Funeral Home, 1289 Keith Ross Drive, Oshawa on Friday, February 27th  from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Saturday, February 28th at 11:00 am with Reverend Nancy Knox officiating. Burial will follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, 355 Taunton Rd. E, Whitby.
