STERGHIOU, Marina Sterghiou
June 21, 2025
We are heartbroken to announce that our beloved mother, Marina Sterghiou, passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2025, from complications due to pneumonia.
Marina will be sorely missed by her daughters, Helen (Rey) and Maria, and her grandsons Alexander and Nicholas.
Marina was born into a loving family in Athens, Greece, during the turbulent years leading up to WWII. She enjoyed close relationships with her parents, siblings, and numerous cousins. She emigrated to Canada in 1958 where she married her longtime husband of 50 years, Stergios.
Marina was a dedicated mother who instilled a sense of pride into her children of their heritage, culture, and religion. She unselfishly served as treasurer and president of the Greek Philoptochos Association Evagelistria for many years. Her calm and gentle disposition were an inspiration to all who knew her.
Marina was an avid sewer, knitter, cook, and gardener, sharing the fruits of her labour and knowledge with her neighbours and numerous friends. Her home was always open to visitors, and she enjoyed entertaining them.
Her passing has left a huge hole in our hearts, and we will miss her presence in our lives.
As an expression of sympathy, donations in Marina’s memory may be made to The Greek Community of Toronto.
Visitation will take place at Bernardo Funeral Home (2960 Dufferin Street) on Friday, June 27, from 2–4 p.m. and 7–9 p.m.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, June 28 at 11:00 a.m. at Annunciation of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Cathedral (136 Sorauren Ave., Toronto), followed by interment at Mount Pleasant Cemetery (375 Mount Pleasant Rd.).
Memories and notes of condolence may be shared at Bernardo Funeral Homes.
