STONER, Norah Alma (Lane) Stoner Obituary
STONER, Norah Alma (nee Lane) – It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of Norah Stoner, also known as Nana, Gran-Nan, and Gg, at Copper Terrace Nursing Home, Chatham, on Saturday, October 10th, 2015 in her 103rd year.
The daughter of the late Sergeant Major William Lane (1944) and Alice Lane (Moon) 1947. Norah was born in an army barracks in Kent County, England. Beloved mother of the late George Edward Stoner (1977), Shirley Spicehowicez (2012), and the late Jim Stoner (2011). Survived by her grandchildren Thom Robitaille of Ottawa, Jackie Rowe and Jim of Exeter, Carolee Milliner of Chatham, Jeanne McNaughton of Gabriola of B.C., Shelly Parker and Ian of Corunna, and Brenda Bechard and Jean Paul of Pain Court, and several great and great great grandchildren. Good friend of Lillian Stoner.
At 14 years of age, Norah came to Canada with her parents. In 1930, Norah studied music at Toronto’s Conservatory of Music where she received recognition as an honor student. Travelling back to England on the Queen Elizabeth in 1937 with her husband and two children, Norah gave birth to her third child the day after arriving in port. During WWII Norah joined the ARP (Air Raid Precaution) cleaning buildings of rubble and casualties. Norah loved Winston Churchill’s courage and the magic of his words. Her husband Albert enlisted and fought the nightly air raids known as the “London Blitz.”
In 1946, Norah’s family boarded the Mauritania and returned to Canada settling in Kent County, Ontario where she raised her family and taught piano. Norah loved to laugh and enjoyed music, dancing, entertaining, reading, traveling and being with her ever growing family. Norah was a member of the Branch 28 Legion.

Cremation has taken place with a private interment to take place at a later date.
