STYLES, Lois Lorraine Styles

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Lois Lorraine Styles (nee Adie) on November 15, 2025, with Family by her side, at the age of 87. After a long battle with Alzheimer’s, she passed to her heavenly home surrounded with care and love at Rest Haven Lodge. Lois is survived by her Husband, Merle; her 2 Sons, Ross (Kelly), and Bradley (Cindy); 4 Granddaughters: Jaimie, Nicole (Alex), Kelsea (Dylan) and Alicia; and 3 Great Granddaughters: Cora, Ellie, and Quinn.

Lois was born to her parents, William and Muriel Adie, who farmed near the Village of Cut Knife, SK. Lois met her Husband, Merle, while attending Cut Knife High School where they became immediate friends and high school sweethearts that resulted in 67+ years of marriage. Family was always the most important thing for Lois. Whether it was having the Grandchildren over for sleepovers, birthday parties, or having all the Family for Christmas or other special dinners, Lois was always ready to go all out. One very special event each year was for Lois to take the Granddaughters Christmas shopping where each one would be allocated an equal dollar amount to purchase their own gift. After that it was back to Grandma and Grandpa’s house to wrap the gifts and have dinner.

As Lois’ two boys grew older, there was less to do around the house, so Lois went back to work. She had previously been a switchboard operator for various telephone companies as she accompanied her Husband around the country as he got promotions. It was now time for Lois to choose her career, and it turned out to be sales. She started out as a sale representative for a Personnel Company followed by a few years with Figure Magic. She then went to Yellow Pages (Dominion Directory) as a telephone sales representative. She quickly became β€˜a rising star’ and worked her way up to Telephone Sales Manager. At this position she won many awards and won a number of Travel Incentive Plan trips over the years (Hawaii 4, Caribbean Cruise 4, Figi 1, Australia 1, and England 1). Lois retired from Yellow Pages, after 25 year’s service, in 1996. She then carried on for 3 more years by forming her own Company and returned to sell, with staff, under a contract with Yellow Pages.

Lois always had a special β€˜thing’ with people. She could go into a room full of strangers and come out with friends. She was always a friend to the β€˜underdog’ with many being handicapped or disabled in some way. Lois continued to do this while she was in the care homes with Alzheimer’s.

In 1995, Lois and Merle retired to Vancouver Island at Arbutus Ridge. Lois acquired many friends while there for 23 years. She belonged to the Hiking Club and did hikes every Friday with the Club Members. She also belonged to the Wine Club, Scrabble Club, and Mahjong Club. She was always driving her friends into Victoria to shop or up Island to take in the Holiday Markets.

Lois loved to travel. Her and Merle took over 22 cruises and visited more than 42 countries of the world. A favourite Winter Holiday was to go to Mexico, especially to the Lake Chapala area in Central Mexico where their close Arbutus friends, Joan and Reg Burkholder, go each winter.

Family and Friends noticed that Lois was having trouble in carrying out routine daily type activities, i.e., writing a cheque, signing her name, losing her way or not showing up to an agreed place, etc. The Family felt it was time for Lois to move to a smaller house. A condo was chosen in Victoria, BC and Lois & Merle moved there in 2018. She was good for about a year, but things for Lois were getting worse. In 2021 we placed her into care, first at RJH, then Gorge Road Hospital where she was confirmed as having Alzheimer’s disease. We finally got her into Rest Haven Lodge in 2023. The care was great in every place and was exceptional at Rest Haven Lodge. Our special thanks to the caregivers, nurses & staff, and to Dr. Vaughn at Rest Haven Lodge, for their care and attention to Lois while she spent her final years there.

A Celebration of Life for Lois will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at the Travino Event Centre, Victoria, BC.

In lieu of flowers, in memory of Lois please consider making donations to the Alzheimer Society of BC or to Rest Haven Lodge, 2281 Mills Road, Sidney BC, V8L 2C3.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.
