It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Beverly Ann Switner, who passed away peacefully on Thursday August 14, 2025 in Port Perry, Ontario, at the age of 81, surrounded by love.
Born on May 31, 1944, in Mirror, Alberta, Bev was the beloved daughter of the late Lewis Switner and Lavona Charlotte Switner. She was predeceased by her sister Faye, and is lovingly remembered by her brothers Art, George, Ken, and David, all of Alberta, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She shared a special lifelong bond with her cousin Bette Jo Drisdelle, and her best friend since the first day of school in 1951, Sandy Williams. These friendships were constant, comforting threads woven throughout Bev’s life.
A devoted educator for over 30 years, Bev taught Home Economics with a hands-on, no-nonsense style that reflected who she was — resourceful, smart, and fiercely capable. She not only taught generations of students in the classroom, but extended her passion into the community by teaching women to sew Parka coats in evening classes from her home. She found joy in sewing, reading, gardening, and wintering in Florida, where she soaked up sunshine and well-earned rest.
Bev was a woman whose strength ran deep, yet was always wrapped in kindness. When she set her mind to something, she followed through with grace and determination. She carried herself with quiet courage, a twinkle of wit, and a warmth that made you feel safe in her presence.
Among Bev’s most treasured relationships was the one she formed with Adele, who came into her life through Bev’s close friendship with Adele’s husband, Courtney, during his early teaching career. For over three decades, Bev and Adele built a bond that went far beyond friendship — one of deep trust, love, and chosen family. Along with Adele and Courtney, their sons, Stone and Cruz, lovingly knew her as “Gramma Bev.” She became a true part of their family, celebrating milestones, offering guidance, and simply being present in the moments that mattered most. She loved them all deeply, and was deeply loved in return.
Her life was a beautiful example of loyalty, courage, and love in action — qualities she quietly encouraged in those around her. In Bev’s honour, may we carry those same qualities forward: live boldly, love your people hard, and never underestimate the strength of a woman with a sewing machine and a plan.
Friends and family are warmly invited to gather in celebration of Bev’s life at Low & Low Funeral Home, 23 Main Street South, Uxbridge on Saturday August 23, 2025 at 1:00 PM with visitation commencing at 12:00 PM. Together, we will honour the memory of an extraordinary woman whose kindness, strength, and spirit touched us all.
In lieu of flowers and as expressions of sympathy, donations to Oak Ridges Hospice of Durham would be appreciated by the family. Friends are invited to express condolences and share memories by visiting www.lowandlow.ca.
