FYFE, Sylvia Jean (nee HOLMES) –
January 12, 1929 – July 21, 2023
Sylvia passed away peacefully, on Friday, July 21st, at The Briton House in Toronto, at the age of 94.
Daughter of George and Ada Holmes (deceased), Sylvia was a positive, active, and caring person who worked hard to make the world a better place.
Born in Toronto, Sylvia grew up in the Beach, and attended Malvern Collegiate, where she was an active participant in sports and student government.
She graduated from the University of Toronto in 1950 with a degree in Physical Education. While at U of T, played on both the Basketball and Volleyball teams.
Sylvia went on to become a Physical Education and English teacher in Ottawa and later at Bloor Collegiate in Toronto. Sylvia was a stay-at-home mom for many years before returning to the workforce and finishing her career at Fudger House.
Sylvia was a generous donor to a wide variety of charities, and non-profit organizations.
She was an active volunteer for many years at the Friendship Centre. She loved her family deeply, enjoyed hiking, travelling, reading, and learning.
She was a committed humanitarian and a role model to the power of compassion and resilience. Sylvia’s best friends were her sisters, Gwen, the late Marion, and the late Louise. Loving mother to Alastair Fyfe, Blake and Christy Fyfe, and John Fyfe.
Grandmother to Ian, Alyson, Brendan, Aimee, Katie, Alexander, Isla, and Katherine; and great-grandmother to Poppy, Liam, and Cleo. Special thanks to her caregivers led by the team organized by Jonah Estrella, with special recognition to Feliy and Rowena.
There will be a Celebration of Life to follow.
