SZYSZKA, Nadia Kicner Szyszka

Born Nadzieja Maria Szyszka in Poltava, Ukraine on January 10, 1925, to Simonis and Olgae (Narizna), Nadia passed away peacefully in her 100th year. Wife of the late Edmund Kicner (1995). Beloved mother to Walter. Cherished grandmother “Bubie” to Tamara LaBute (Brian) and Natalie Windich (John), and great-grandmother to Ryan Kicner, Scarlett Windich, Daniel, and Brianna LaBute.

After enduring the hardships of WWII, Nadia, Edmund, and Walter immigrated to Canada in 1950, making Burlington their home. Nadia spent her working life at Bonar & Bemis Packaging in Burlington, retiring in 1990 at the age of 65. She treasured travel, with fond memories of Cuba, Florida, and Hawaii.

Nadia was renowned for hosting family celebrations and serving delicious Ukrainian and Polish dishes. A devout parishioner of St. Gabriel’s Roman Catholic Church, she attended Polish Mass every Sunday and was active with the Polish ladies and seniors club at the Burlington Polish Hall, volunteering and cooking for bazaars.

She was the unwavering foundation of her family—teaching by example the values of hard work, generosity, and love. Her strength, presence, and boundless care will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
