TAULU, Weikko “Vic” Taulu

Vic was born in Fort William, which is now known as Thunder Bay Ontario in 1937 of immigrant parents from Finland and was the fifth youngest of six siblings. At the age of 18 he and his brother Frank left Ontario in the middle of cold winter for a vacation driving west in their convertible. The brothers never looked back and started their new lives on the west coast. Vic started his career working for Canadian Pacific Railway and frequently enjoyed his lunch at the Pine Cafe where he met his future wife Rose who was a waitress at the time. While dating, Vic converted to Catholicism and in 1959 they were the second couple to marry in the newly built Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church by Father Sig. Shortly after getting married, Vic started working for R&E Paving where he worked as a superintendent for 37 years until his early retirement.

Vic and Rose were blessed with two children and quickly settled in the newly built neighborhood in Alberni where they resided for 64 years until his passing. After his retirement, he spent his years fishing, gardening, doing carpentry, and playing games. Vic was a kind caring and extremely generous man who valued helping friends and supporting his community. Vic and Rose enjoyed full rich lives together sharing world travels with family and friends as well as spending summers at the beach house in Qualicum.

Vic was the last remaining survivor, and fifth of six children. He was predeceased by his parents Martti and Hilma and his sisters Kertty, Norah, Helvi, Helmi, and his brother Frank. Vic Leaves behind his loving wife Rose of 66 years, son Martin (Darnell), daughter Tracey, grandchildren Jasmine (Kevin) and Jakob and his great grandson Ronan.
