Never have you ever likely met someone as stubbornly positive as Alastair. Following a terminal stage 4 sarcoma diagnosis in September 2021, Alastair vowed to fight his cancer and to live a full life to an extent that few others would have. He endured more than 50 rounds of chemotherapy, participated in several clinical trials, made countless trips to the hospital, and withstood the constant pain that came as his tumours grew – all because he deeply loved life, people, his wife Estelle, his two sons Kyle and Ethan, his sister Trish, his stepchildren, and his grandchildren. In the last couple of years, his grandchildren became a powerful source of love, joy, and purpose – a special “raison-d’être” that motivated him to stay with us just a little longer.
Professionally, Alastair was a dynamic and passionate entrepreneur with a career spanning more than 30 years. He built, ran, and sold multiple successful businesses across digital marketing, advertising, publishing, and media. A gifted speaker and business development consultant, Alastair loved sharing his knowledge to help others thrive, whether on a stage, in a boardroom, or in a classroom. He was a part-time professor at Seneca College for over 18 years, where he led courses in marketing and entrepreneurship and served as Chairman of the Graphic Design Advisory Board.
Alastair’s leadership extended far beyond his professional pursuits. He served on numerous boards, including the Whitby Station Art Gallery and the British Automobile Racing Club, and held key organizing roles for major events like the Toronto Indy. For over three decades, he also dedicated himself to volunteering with the Boy Scouts of Canada, and more recently, contributed his time to LHON Canada – a cause very close to his heart. Whether he was mentoring youth, fundraising for community programs, or supporting fellow runners, Alastair gave generously of his time and spirit.
But Alastair’s accomplishments were never just about titles; they were about heart. He poured his energy into every passion project, from restoring vintage cars and organizing races to running marathons and guiding blind runners through Achilles Canada. A lifelong athlete, Alastair was an ultra-marathon trail runner, avid yogi, and a firm believer in moving through life with enthusiasm and intention. No matter what he took on, whether professional, personal, or volunteer, Alastair was all in. He never half-assed anything. He went full speed, fully committed, and wouldn’t have had it any other way.
To honour Alastair’s wishes, and in place of a formal funeral, a Celebration of Life will be planned for early Fall – a gathering to remember him with the energy, stories, and spirit he so loved. If you wish to be notified about his Celebration of Life or would like to contact the family, please email alastairtaylor1956@gmail.com
Donations in Alastair’s name can be made to the Sarcoma Cancer Foundation of Canada or the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, where Alastair received such compassionate and professional care from Dr. Razak and his team.
Alastair, your infectious positivity, enthusiasm, love and friendship will be missed by many.
