TEETZEL, Cardie Teetzel
December 20, 1929 - November 7, 2025
With Love and gratitude for a long and well-lived life, we share the peaceful passing of James Cardwell “Cardie” Teetzel, at the age of 95 on November 7, 2025 at Village on the Ridge in Ridgetown.
Born on December 20, 1929, to Clifford and Mary (nee Hougton) Teetzel, Cardie grew up and spent nearly his entire life on the farm on Teetzel Line in Orford Township – a place that shaped him, grounded him and where his roots ran deep.
In his younger years, Cardie worked a short time in London, though it wasn’t long before the rhythms of the farm called him home. Farming was his life’s work, and he approached it with dedication, pride and a practicality that could fix just about anything. If there was a missing part or tool needed Cardie could find it.
Cardie shared 69 years of marriage with Muriel (2022), the love of his life and his steady companion. Together they built a life full of laughter, travel, stories, daily work, and the simple joys of being surrounded by their family, friends and neighbours.
He will be deeply missed by his children Colleen (Roy) Glassford, Brenda (John R.) Johnston and Kevin (Cindy) Teetzel.
Cherished grandfather to Crystal Glassford (Chad Allen), Eamon (Janelle) Johnston, Devon Johnston, Owen Johnston, Ainsley Glassford (Chris Robinson), Dacre Teetzel and Fairan Teetzel.
Proud great-grandpa to Louise, Joanna and Duncan Johnston, who brought him endless delight with their antics, giggles and curiosity over the last ten years.
Cardie was known far and wide for his humour, quick wit and practical jokes, his affection for gas engines and of course his legendary devotion to “The Pig” a Teetzel Line celebrity in its own right. Whether he was telling a joke, tinkering on a machine, or sharing a story that left everyone laughing, Cardie had a way of making everyday life lighter. He saw the world with a twinkle in his eye and he made sure the rest of us did too.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, resourcefulness and family stories that will be told for generations.
