With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Doug Thomas, who left us peacefully, with his family at his side, on October 18th at the age of 79. Doug was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a deeply proud grandfather whose kindness and quiet strength touched everyone who knew him.

Doug was married to his beloved wife, Arlene, for 56 wonderful years. Together, they built a life rooted in love, laughter, and unwavering support for each other and their family. Their bond was an enduring example of partnership and commitment.

Doug was a cherished father to his daughter Christine, who always felt the deep pride and unconditional love he carried for her. He was also a beaming grandfather to Aedan, whose accomplishments and growth brought Doug endless joy. He was never shy about sharing just how proud he was of his grandson, and his face would light up at every story, milestone, and visit.

Doug was predeceased by his loving parents, Charlie & Kathleen Thomas.

Those who knew Doug will remember his quiet wisdom, warm sense of humor, and the deep care he showed to those around him. Whether sharing stories, helping out without being asked, or simply offering a steady presence, Doug made life better for everyone around him.

He leaves behind a legacy of love, humility, and family devotion that will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Doug will be profoundly missed and forever remembered by his wife Arlene, daughter Christine, son-in-law Jeff, grandson Aedan, his sister Susan, many nieces and nephews, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A visitation and funeral service will be held at Newcastle Funeral Home, Monday, October 27th at 11:00am.

Doug’s family would like to extend their most sincere thanks to the incredible nurses at Lakeridge Bowmanville, who treated Doug with such kindness and respect while he was in palliative care.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Ontario Federation of Anglers & Hunters in Doug’s memory.
