THOMAS , Shirley Mae Thomas

It is with heavy hearts, deep affection, and cherished memories that we announce the passing of Shirley Mae Thomas. She passed away peacefully on July 12, 2025, in Windsor, Ontario, the city she was born in and loved dearly, surrounded by the love of her family and friends. Born May 3, 1933, Shirley lived a wonderfully full life colored by laughter and friendship. With her radiant smile forever in our memories, those fortunate enough to know her will always remember her personal strength, quick wit, and steadfast character.

Shirley is survived by her cherished son James, and predeceased by her beloved daughters Laura and Carolyn. She was a proud grandmother to Michael, Talise, Ashley, Stergulla, and William, and held dear the memories of her many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. Shirley is now reunited in Heaven with her adored parents Willis and Caroline, daughters, and brothers Walter, Gordon, and Raymond.

With a keen eye for detail, Shirley excelled in her career in the banking industry. Her thoughtfulness extended into her personal life—carefully planning card games, sewing clothes and Halloween costumes for her family, and always listening attentively. Her love for music and dancing was unmatched—she was a lifelong fan of Engelbert Humperdinck and a familiar face in Windsor’s music scene, from Windsor Light Opera to Friday nights at the Fogolar.

Though Windsor was her heart, Shirley loved to travel and had a passion for learning about other cultures and languages. She deeply valued humanity and spent her leisure time reading and helping others, living by her favorite saying: “take time for others.” Shirley was a loyal supporter of many charities, including the Heart and Stroke Foundation, PETA, the March of Dimes, and MS Canada.

As we say goodbye to Shirley, we remember her beautiful smile, warm personality, and her incredible ability to make others feel important. Her spirit lives on in all who knew her, and we will honour her memory by living with kindness, compassion, and joy.

She will be laid to rest at Windsor Grove Cemetery alongside many beloved family members at a later date.
