BLACK, Thomas Wallace ‘Tom’ Black Obituary
BLACK, Thomas Wallace ‘Tom’ – Peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, October 3rd, 2015, at the age of 86, after a long struggle with several illnesses.
Reunited with his beloved wife Ray, and many long-missed family members and friends. Greatly cherished by his daughter Andrea (Alex, Jenn), granddaughter Rachel, his family in Scotland as well as all over the world, and his dear friends Barry Hum, Hing Ho, David Ho and their families.
Special thanks to the staff at Fairhaven who cared for him over the past two years, Dr. Millar, the Renal Insufficiency Clinic at PRHC, and to everyone who helped Tom live independently for as long as possible.
A man of many talents, among other occupations he was the proprietor of Tom Black’s Towel Town, delivered tickets for the Peterborough Hospital Lottery, worked on computers at the IOF in Toronto, was a joiner and shop-fitter, and served in the Royal Engineers.
Tom was a Scot by birth and a Canadian by choice, a joiner by trade, an independent thinker, a genial salesman, a constant comedian, and a friend to every good soul.
Donations in Tom’s memory to the Fairhaven Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, or the Scottish Rite Charitable Foundation (for “puzzles of the mind,” such as those Tom dealt with) would be greatly appreciated.
Arrangements entrusted with Highland Park funeral centre, 2510 Bensfort Road, Peterborough, Ontario. At Tom’s request there will be no service. Share a laugh, plant some seeds, play with kids and dogs, and spread kindness in the world. Cremation has taken place and his ashes will be taken to Scotland to be scattered in the same location as Ray’s at a later date.
