THOMPSON, Mary Eleanor Thompson
April 28, 1931 - November 14, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of
Eleanor Thompson on November 14th to her heavenly home,
surrounded with love at Victoria General Hospital.
Her sweetness touched many lives, and she carried a
mischievous twinkle in her eye, as any Thompson should.
Predeceased by her husband Elvin and her son Brian, Eleanor
will be deeply missed by her son Wayne, grandchildren Owen
and Carlee, daughter-in-law Shelley, neice and nephews Marlene,
Donny, and Larry Baily, extended family, and many friends.
Born in 1931 in Harding, Manitoba, Eleanor grew up alongside
her siblings Jordy and Mervin. Before meeting her husband,
Eleanor worked as a secretary, a role that reflected her sharp
mind and meticulous nature. She met Elvin on a lively dance floor
in Virden, Manitoba. They married in 1949 and welcomed their
sons, Brian and Wayne, shortly after. The family later moved west
to Victoria, BC, where Eleanor lovingly devoted herself to raising
her children and helping maintain the family farm.
Eleanor loved tending her flower and vegetable gardens, playing
the piano and singing, and spending time playing bridge or
canasta with her friends. Competitive in nature, she was an avid
lawn bowler and successful bingo player.
She volunteered for many years with the Saanich Peninsula
Hospital Auxiliary, where she made lasting friendships and
contributed proudly to her community.
Throughout her life she remained a creative craftsperson, a
brilliant baker, and a generous spirit who shared whatever she
had. Known for her kindness, gentle humour, and a surprising
knack for practical jokes, she brought warmth and levity wherever
she went.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to all who supported Eleanor
at The Peninsula, where she lived for the past eight years. Warm
acknowledgement as well to the nurses, doctors, and staff at
Saanich Peninsula Hospital and Victoria General Hospital for their
dedicated, compassionate care.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Friendship Community Church
