THOMPSON, Sheron Ruby Florence Thompson

It is with heavy hearts, that after a courageous two-year battle with cancer, we announce the passing of Sheron on December 8, 2025, in the Palliative Care Unit at Burnaby Hospital. She was at peace and surrounded by the love of family, friends and the caring nursing staff.

Sheron Thompson (nee McCaffery) was the beloved wife of the late Ben Thompson. She is dearly loved and missed by her daughters Donna Thompson (Stephen Craig) and Jean (Harvey) Edwards, sons Edward Thompson (Joanne Kirouac) and Andrew Thompson. She was a caring and loving second mom to Jeffery Murphy, Grandma to Jocy, Matthew, Shawn and Sara, Great-grandma to Kayla, Jonah, Jacob, Logan, Emery, Emathyst, Freya, and most recently August.

Sheron is survived by two sisters Audrey Haney (Jerry Legendre) and Colleen (Dennis) Putman, many cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family, who will greatly miss her and her fun loving, yet no guff character.

Sheron cherished her times working with children and mentoring younger people. Whether it was during many decades working various departments at the PNE, coaching YBC or Burnaby First bowlers, or volunteering with Variety – The Children’s Charity of BC. Within Variety she was known as the β€œGold Heart” lady with a golden heart. For decades she could be found volunteering at the various events organized for children and their families and was instrumental in managing the packaging and distribution of millions of the β€œGold Hearts” you may see family, friends and supporters of Variety wearing. She truly enjoyed giving back to her community and will be greatly missed.

The family extends a heartfelt thank you to cousins Betty Ann Beer and Cathy Moriarity, dear friends Verna Gilchrist and Ray Wilson, and the many others from her communities of friends for their unwavering support throughout the years. They also express their sincere gratitude to the doctors, nurses and support staff of Burnaby Hospital and Vancouver Cancer Clinic for their care and compassion during these difficult years.

Respecting Sheron’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or celebration of life. Sheron does ask that parents reach out to your children, and children reach out to your parents, tell them how much you appreciate, love, and cherish them.

As an expression of sympathy, donations to Variety – The Children’s Charity of BC, Canadian Cancer Society, or Burnaby Hospital Foundation – Oncology or Palliative Care Units would be appreciated
