TORRANCE, Lois Madeline Torrance

October 2, 1921 - January 8, 2026
TORRANCE, Lois Madeline Torrance

Passed away peacefully at Abbeylawn Manor, Pickering on Thursday January 8, 2026 in her 105th year.  Wife of the late Talbot (Bud) Edward Torrance. Loved and missed by her children Janet McKibbon-Doyle (Bill), Wendy Miller (Duncan), Ted (Susan), Ruth LeBlanc (Johnny) and Warren. She was a proud Grandmother of 11 And Great Grandma of 15 who loved her dearly. Her nieces and nephews as well as family and friends were always in her thoughts, and she always kept in touch with them by phone, which she considered to be her lifeline when distance was an issue for many. Sadly, predeceased by grandsons Chris McKibbon, William Torrance and granddaughter Hope LeBlanc and son-in-laws Ron McKibbin and Rick Le Blanc.

Lois was born at home on the family farm in Chester, Nova Scotia, the fourth of six children to Blanche and Everett Nass. She was the last remaining member of her family.

Lois grew up in Nova Scotia and towards the end of WWII met a young naval officer, eventually, her husband Bud, and settled in Ontario in the early days of Scarborough and then to Agincourt area where they lived for many years. Mom was a stay-at-home mom, looking after five kids but also maintaining the home inside and outer, as dad was not handy. Money was short so she painted, papered, did minor repairs, but her passion was gardening at which she was exceptional!

Lois moved to Uxbridge in later years and was so happy there and was embraced by the Town. They named a street after her! Lois, being a veteran of WWII was taken under the wing of the Uxbridge R.C Legion. She received her Toronto Star daily and read it from cover to cover as well as local newspapers to keep herself informed of current events. She Loved one on one conversations with all ages and was a good listener and great storyteller. She was fortunate to have some lovely neighbours and helping hands who allowed her to stay in her home until she was 102. A humble and wise woman who was truly quite remarkable.

Thank you to the staff of Abbeylawn for their care and compassion during Lois’ time there.
