TREMBLAY, Louis Tremblay

July 25, 1937 - August 23, 2025
TREMBLAY, Louis Tremblay

Beloved husband of the late Sheila Tremblay (O’Meara) and adored father of Micheline Tremblay, Patti Sauntry (David), Sandra Brancatelli (Gino), Pierrette Tremblay (Steven Vetrone), and the late Guy Tremblay. Cherished Grandpa to Marco (Kyra), Luca, Katie, Alex, Finnegan, Sean, and Shea.

From a young age, Louis discovered that academics offered a path to a career and a life he had not considered possible. He excelled in mathematics and science, with his grades published in Montreal newspapers, clippings he kept throughout his life. He enrolled at Royal Military College where he earned an education and gained fluency in English in exchange for his military service. A proud ex-cadet and officer, Louis graduated with the Class of 1960 amongst some of the most accomplished military and business leaders of his time and kept in touch with the group up until his last days. He then went on to complete his degree in Mechanical Engineering at École Polytechnique and later earned an MBA from Queen’s University.

Louis was the founding Principal of the Cornwall campus of St. Lawrence College, where he and Sheila settled to raise their young family. In 1978, he realized a lifelong dream by establishing his own consulting engineering firm, which he successfully operated for more than 25 years. Among his many professional accomplishments, he took particular pride in his work on the Lionel Chevrier Building in Cornwall. His contributions also included serving as Director of Cordel Development Corporation Ltd. and Capital Development Cornwall Inc. He further dedicated his expertise as a member of the board of directors of VIA Rail, the Cornwall Police Service, and the Cornwall Community Hospital.

Together with Sheila, Louis travelled widely, driving dune buggies in the deserts of Oman, photographing elephants in Kenya, drinking wine in French vineyards, and Guiness in Irish pubs, amongst his many adventures. He retired to his cottage, his boat, and volunteer work.
Louis lived by the values of integrity, persistence, and hard work, and he taught his children to do the same. He was tough and did not tolerate excuses, but to those who knew him best, he was soft-hearted and kind. He was endlessly curious, with a sharp sense of humour. Louis proved you didn’t have to be Italian to love a big bowl of pasta. He spared nothing of himself for his grandchildren, delighting in their successes and marveling at their affection for one another.

Louis left us full of love, and we will forever miss him.
