VALERIE, Scheel Valerie

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Valerie Scheel, who passed away peacefully on August 17, 2025, at Etobicoke General Hospital at the age of 80.

Born in Slovenia in 1944, Valerie leaves behind her beloved husband of 53 years, Norbert; her cherished children, Norbie (Kim), Natalie (Amy), Andrea, and Diana (Silvio); and her adored grandchildren, Carmine, Francesca, Quintyn, and Sloane. She was also a loving “fur grandma” to Luna, Finn and Bandit.

Valerie immigrated to Canada in 1968, settling in Ottawa with her aunt and uncle. She pursued her passion for cooking by enrolling in a hospitality program in Algonquin College. In the summer she worked as a pastry chef at the iconic Château Lake Louise. After moving to Toronto, she met Norbert, and together they built a beautiful life and family.

Valerie and Norbert shared a love of travel, visiting many beautiful places and spent many happy years living in Sarasota, Longboat Key, Florida.

A gifted cook and baker, Valerie had a remarkable talent in the kitchen—everything she made was delicious and crafted with love. Her family will always treasure the memories of holidays and special occasions filled with her homemade meals and baked goods.

Valerie’s warmth, creativity, and devotion to her family will be deeply missed and forever remembered.  She never ended a phone call without wishing us good luck, and every birthday card carried her heartfelt blessing for our happiness and success. Her wishes weren’t just words – they were a quiet ritual of love that carried us through life. The luck she gave her children, wrapped in hope and unwavering belief, will last a lifetime. Giving you pinky one last time, Mom. We will carry that love with us always.

Cremation will take place, and a mass will be held on September 9, at 10:30am, at Our lady of the Airways Church, 7407 Darcel Ave, Mississauga, ON L4T 2X5.
