VANDERLOO, Albert Vanderloo

On Wednesday, November 20, 2024, Albert Vanderloo gained his angel wings at the age of 83, with his eldest grandson by his side, at the Algoma Residential Community Hospice (ARCH).

Albert will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 63 years, Reta, also known as “Bubbles,” and their three children: John (Heather), Susan McEwan, and Michael (Rachelle). A beloved grandfather, he leaves behind grandchildren Jayme McEwan, Johnny, Jesse, Chelsey McEwan, Deanna, Julie, Mitchell, and Cody. Albert is now reunited with his beloved grandson, Lance.

Born on May 24, 1941, in Son en Breugle, Netherlands, Albert was the son of the late Francisca and the late Antonios Vanderloo. One of six siblings, he is predeceased by Maria VandeMeirden (late Tony), Arnold Vanderloo (late Anita), Frank Vanderloo (Mary), and Annie Lee (Terry), and survived by his brother Anthony Vanderloo Jr. Albert was a cherished brother-in-law of Mary Ryckman (late Angus), late Robert MacPherson (late Gloria), and Brenda Odber (Fred). Loving godfather of Megan, he will also be fondly remembered by his nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Albert’s life was defined by hard work, beginning on his mother’s farm and continuing through his years at Algoma Steel, where he started at just 18. Alongside his career at Algoma Steel, he ran a construction company, moving and building houses. Even after retiring with over 37 years of service, Albert remained active, assisting his children with home projects and tending to his garden and hay fields.

In 2017, a serious burn injury marked a turning point in Albert’s life, yet he displayed remarkable resilience and returned home after a long hospital stay. Despite his battle with dementia and Parkinson’s disease, Albert’s memory remains a testament to his strength, love, and devotion to family.

Friends and family are invited to visit at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758) on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service in the Chapel at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Helen Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

Memorial donations to ARCH or the Alzheimer Society of Sault Ste. Marie would be greatly appreciated by the family. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the ARCH angels and Dr. Nicole Apostle for their exceptional care and compassion.
