VAUGHAN, Robert Lenard Stanley Vaughan

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Robert (Bob) Lenard Stanley Vaughan, who left us suddenly, unexpectedly, and far, far too soon on October 18, 2025, while doing the yard work he loved. Though his passing was swift, the shock of his absence is immeasurable. Born in Scarborough, Ontario, on June 28, 1957, Bob was the son of Beverly Vaughan and the beloved brother of Melvin, Jimmy, Donna, Darlene, Beverly, and Joy. He learned early the value of hard work, a lesson he carried throughout his life. Bob met the love of his life, Charlotte, while working at Jim’s Tires in Bowmanville. They married on March 21, 1981, and together built a life filled with laughter, love, and resilience. With their two daughters, Shari Lynne and Denise Elaine, they spent many happy years in Oshawa—rich in each other and in the love that surrounded them. For nearly twenty years, Bob worked for Ritson Rentals, where his skill and reliability earned him the respect of all who knew him. Later, he joined Canada Material Handling Ltd, where he was a trusted and in-demand maintenance and repair technician for industrial vehicles, preparing to retire at the end of this year. Bob loved his work. He found joy in fixing engines, tinkering in his garage, and helping friends and neighbours keep their lawnmowers and snowblowers running—always through word of mouth, never for fame or fortune. His hands were strong, his heart was kind, and his word was his bond.

His spare time was rare and precious, and almost always spent with his family. He adopted his sled dogs, Mikeyela, Hogart and Scarlet in memory of his much-loved father-in-law, Samuel Brereton; and he enjoyed taking day trips to go dogsledding with his small and sometimes reluctant team. He was an Oshawa Generals fan and long-time season ticket holder. Watching the Blue Jays in the World Series this year will be incredibly bitter sweet for his wife and daughters knowing how much he would be enjoying it too.

To know Robert was to love him. He is deeply missed by his devoted wife Charlotte, his daughters Shari (Ron Lively) and Denise (Thomas Mauer), and his adored grandsons Nicholas Henderson and Vaughan Mauer, and his lifelong best friend, Wayne MacNutt. He leaves behind countless family, friends, and neighbours who were touched by his generosity, humour, and quiet strength. A Celebration of Life will be held at Newcastle Funeral Home (386 Mill St, Newcastle) on Saturday, November 8th, 2025, from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Anyone who loved Robert is invited to come, share stories, and say goodbye.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada would be a thoughtful and meaningful way to honor Robert’s memory. A life well lived. A love well shared. A man well remembered.
