VEERMAN , Dick Adrianus Veerman

Dick Adrianus Veerman passed away at Douglas Memorial Hospital on August 1st, 2025, following a brief illness. He was 95.

Beloved husband of Wladyslava Veerman and the late Theadora Maria Veerman (deceased). Father of Mike (Lucy), Brian (Carol), Ron (Rita), and stepfather to Adam Maciuba (Nicole) and Piotr Maciuba. Grandfather to Alanna Coulson (Sean), Marc (Kylie), Jonathan (Kaitlin), Brianna (Brian), David (Nora), Joshua, and Kona, and step-grandfather to Jacob, Natalie, and Mateusz Maciuba. Great-grandfather to Rylie and Owen Coulson.

Born in Leiden, Netherlands, on June 14, 1930, Dick experienced the turmoil of World War II as a young child, especially during the occupation by German forces. As a young man of 17, he began traveling by steamships to Canada, often waiting at the docks for an open berth to take him across the ocean. While in Canada, he started selling bulbs door to door. In the 1950s, he eventually stayed in Canada and became a Canadian citizen. During that time, he met Thea, and the two were married, raising a family of three boys. Fatherhood began in 1958 and continued through the 1960s. The family started in Clarkson and moved to Beamsville in the mid-1960s.

Dick worked as a salesman for various horticultural companies before becoming self-employed. He arranged shipments of lilies and other plants from various locations and advised greenhouse growers on organizing their planting seasons and growing healthy plants. Dick continued this work into the 2020s until age required his retirement. Thea’s passing in 2002 was challenging, but with Wlada entering his life, he found love again, remarried, and moved to Vineland.

In his earlier years, Dick was an avid sailor, enjoying trips on his catamaran during vacations with his family in the Muskoka area. Later in life, he and Wlada enjoyed visiting nearby casinos together.

Service Details: Visitation will be at Tallman Funeral Home, 3277 King Street, Vineland, on Saturday, August 16th at 10:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. and interment at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Osborne Cemetery. A reception will follow in the Fireside Room at Tallman Funeral Home.
