VEILLETTE, Normand Joseph Maurice Veillette
February 23, 1938 - June 23, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Normand Joseph Maurice Veillette at the St. Catharines Hospital (Marotta Family Hospital) on June 23, 2025, at the age of 87. Born February 23, 1938, he was the son of the late Benoit and Thérèse (née Castonguay), and the beloved husband of Simone (née Giroux).
He is survived by his wife and children: JΓ©rΓ΄me (RenΓ©e), Francis (Barbara), and MΓ©lanie (Jason). He was the cherished grandfather of Miguel, Simon, Γmilie, Sloane, and Γvangeline.
He was the brother of the late RomΓ©o, Laurianne (late Donald), Julien (Carole), the late VΓ©ronique (John), the late Louise (Jim), and Gilbert. Normand is also remembered fondly by his extended Giroux family in the Beauce region and across QuΓ©bec, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Normand was passionate about the outdoorsβenjoying forest walks, gardening, blueberry picking, fishing, camping, and traveling through Ontario and QuΓ©bec. A devoted reader, he was well-informed about world events. His career included work as a military policeman, regional manager for St. Johnβs Ambulance in northern Ontario, and later various part-time roles including security guard at North Bay Airport, janitor for the Conseil scolaire catholique francophone, and car salesman. He chose to return to North Bay to spend more time with his family before retirement.
He leaves his children and especially his grandchildren a legacy of compassion, hope for a better world, and a love for nature. Normand, papa, grand-papa β thank you for everything. We will keep our lamp burning for you.
Simone and her family extend heartfelt thanks to the staff at Anchor Pointe Retirement Residence in St. Catharines and to the personal support teams at Hauserβs Health Care and Ontario Health at Home Niagara.
A private celebration of life will be held at George Darte Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please consider offering a mass in his name at your parish, or making a donation to the Cancer Society.
