PELOT, Violet (Keegan) Pelot Obituary

PELOT, Violet (nee Keegan) – Vi, age 90, rejoined her husband of 59 years and the love of her life, Gerard, on October 2, 2015.

Loving mother of Susan Hayden (Bill), Ron (Cecilia Engler), Jim (Julie Muir) and Lorraine (Linda Stinson). Cherished grandmother of Gerry and Emily Hayden (Chris Dalton), Nikki (Matt Winters), Anya (Zaki Rafih), Amanda, Elisa, Alice and Sam Pelot and Ryan Stinson (Laura). She was able to enjoy a few months with her first great-grandchild, Keegan.

The youngest of a family of three, she is predeceased by her brother, Pat, sister Beulah, and parents Patrick and Meadrum Keegan. Vi grew up in Maniwaki, Quebec and at age 17 moved to Ottawa with her sister and newly-widowed mother to start a new life.

After they married in 1950, Vi and Gerry lived in Ottawa East and attended Canadian Martyrs Church, where she sang as a soprano in the choir that he directed. Moving to Riverside Park with young children, Vi dedicated her life to raising them and working in the home.

For some 45 years, Vi and Gerry attended Saint Thomas d’Aquin on Kilborn Avenue. A great storyteller and gifted poet, Vi would frequently have her family in hysterics with new vocabulary, “Keeganisms”, and often-repeated stories from her time in Maniwaki. These stories will always be part of her legacy.

The family would like to thank the staff of Amica Westboro and Riverpark Place for their caring and dedicated support; what wonderful homes they provided. Huge thanks also go to Dr. Paul Hacker and the Bayshore HealthCare nurses for their outstanding and compassionate palliative care.

Friends and family are invited to attend a visitation at St. Joseph’s Church, 174 Wilbrod St., Ottawa, Ontario from 11-12 on Saturday, October 10th followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at noon. Refreshments will follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Ottawa Heart Institute.
