VRIEZEN, Ellen Ramona Vriezen (née Sargeant)

Ellen Ramona Vriezen (née Sargeant) passed away peacefully on June 30, 2025, with family and friends by her side after a short but incredibly courageous battle with cancer.

She will be deeply missed by her husband of 40 years and her children, Rachael and Devin (Parinaz). Also remembered by her siblings Jan Sargeant, Alison (Bill) Hountalas, Heather (Spencer) Van Wolferen, John Sargeant, Jim Sargeant, and Jody (Laura) Sargeant; her stepmother Arlene Sargeant and stepsiblings Lorraine (Gustavo) and John (Debbie); as well as many nieces, nephews, and close friends, including her beloved “paddling sisters” Kim and Jodi.

Ellen was predeceased by her parents and her daughter Lindsay.
Everyone who had the joy of knowing Ellen will remember her zest for life, her boundless energy, and her adventurous spirit. An avid camper and canoeist, she embraced whitewater canoeing later in life and kept a vow to skinny dip in every new body of water she encountered.

She loved to travel — just months before her passing, she was riding a camel in the Sahara Desert. In retirement, she embraced tennis and the ukulele, always saying with enthusiasm: “I have an idea…”

As per Ellen’s wishes, no formal funeral will be held. A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
