Peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at Trillium Villa, Onno “Andrew” Vroom passed away at the age of 91.

Beloved husband of Alice for 65 years. Loving father of Tricia (Bruce) Warren, Karen (Doug) Hibovski, Owen Vroom, Audrey (Greg) Kelway, Wendy (Gary) Nyboer, and James (Karen) Vroom. Cherished grandfather of Zeke, Pierce, Kessia, Teague, Dante, Amanda, Jacob, Oliver, Erika, Austin, Petra, Liam, Ethan, and Samantha; great-grandfather of Amelia. Dear brother of Pete and Gail. Predeceased by his parents Onnie and Klaske Vroom; brothers Don, Bernard, Bill, George, Jim, Joe, John, and Henk; and sisters Hilda and Ann.

Andy was born in the Netherlands and emigrated to Canada with his family in 1948 at the age of 14. He began his career with Vroom Construction, working as both an estimator and a builder for many years, and took pride in helping to build numerous churches and homes across Ontario. Later, he moved his family to Nova Scotia, where he became a farmer—a life he embraced and truly loved.

Andy loved to read and enjoyed the practical joke, often finding humor in everyday life and sharing a smile with those around him. He was always up for a game—whether it was playing cards with friends and family or challenging anyone who dared to face him in Facebook word games.

Faith was central to Andy’s life. He prayed and read the Bible daily with the family, and even after all their children were grown, he and his beloved Alice continued their tradition of reading the Bible together and praying for their family every single day. His love, faith, and good humor leave a legacy that will be treasured forever.

Service Details: A funeral service will be held at Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at 12:00 p.m., with family and friends being received one hour prior to the service. Interment to follow in Wyoming Cemetery.
