WAKABAYASHI, Herb Osamu – It is with much sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our brother Herb on June 2, 2015 in Sapporo, Japan at the age of 70, after a brave battle of cancer.

He was born in Slocan City, B.C., son of the late Tokuzo and Hatsuye Wakabayashi. Herb leaves behind his wife Miyuki, daughter Nina (Sapporo, Japan), son Bart (Tokyo, Japan) and daughter Chrissy (Rory) (Richmond B.C). Herb will be sadly missed by brothers Don and Mel (Suzie), Special brother Eddie Wright (Sheila), sisters Sachiko Nakano, Shirley Takahashi (Ted), Keiko Noble, Wanda Nishizaki (Verne), and Lucy Wakabayashi. Herb had three grandchildren, Quinn, Miele and Myles. He was uncle to Pam, Stacey, Dave (Faye), Dwight (Christina), Tara, Tiffany (Mike), Tesha, Kyle, Kari-Anne, Christopher (Miki), Lisa (Shinichi) – great-uncle to Spencer, Max, Naomi, Cate, Hennley, Ray, Tyler, Joe and Mia. Herb also leaves behind aunts, uncles and many cousins.

Herb loved all sports but hockey was his first love. He was proud of all his accomplishments and awards bestowed on him, especially being inducted into the Boston University Hall of Fame and Chatham Sports Hall of Fame. Herb also played hockey in the Sapporo, 1972 and Lake Placid, 1980 Olympics. At the 1980 Olympics at Lake Placid, he was the flag bearer for Japan. After retiring from playing and coaching hockey in Japan, Herb worked for the Miura Golf Company. Herb’s smile, his humble, caring, and compassionate character touched many lives. He will be sadly missed by all.

The many great memories he left us with will help us to move forward and keep his legacy in our hearts forever. “REST IN PEACE, HERB”!

Friends planning an expression of remembrance are asked to consider the Chatham Minor Hockey Association and Chatham-Kent Hospice.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday October 10th gathering from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Links of Kent, 120 Indian Creek Road W. in Chatham, Ontario.  All are welcome.
