“Uncle Howie” passed peacefully at the Nipissing Serenity Hospice on Saturday, July 19, 2025 surrounded by family.

Howie was predeceased by his parents and his dear sister Vivian Bennison. Howie lived with Vivian for much of his adult life until her passing; he helped her as she operated the Powassan Foodbank. Howie enjoyed being part of the “Powassan Coffee Club” and was an active member of Powassan Community Living until he became too ill to live on his own.

Uncle Howie will be missed by his niece Christina Montgomery (Tim) of Powassan, who took over his care after Vivian’s passing, as well as his nephew Derek Bennison (Heather) of Powassan and David Bennison (Vicki) of Welland, as well as his 9 great nieces and nephews.

Howie was a kind man who worked hard when he was able; he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, listening to music and he never passed up a chance to have a sweet treat or dessert.

Howie’s family wishes to thank the staff at The Nipissing Serenity Hospice for their thoughtful care and support. Cremation has taken place. There will be a private interment ceremony at the Strong Community Cemetery in Sundridge, ON.
