WALKER, Dorothy June Walker

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Dorothy June Walker (Lewis) on November 21st, 2025, in her 95th year. Beloved wife of the late Jack Sheldon Walker with whom she was married to for 73 loving years. Cherished mother of Brent (Jan) and the late Glenn (Lynn). Loving grandmother to Gordon, Joanne (Travis) and Andy (Megan), Matthew (Katie) and Meredith (Ryan). Great-grandmother to Jaxon, Aubrey, Chance and Tyler. Predeceased by her parents Vic and Alice Lewis, brother Eddie (Amy) and sister Margaret (Frank).
As the youngest of three, Mom grew up on Brittania Avenue in Hamilton, Ontario. Many summers were spent at the family cottage, β€œBreezy Nook” in Honey Harbour on the shores of Georgian Bay. Mom met Dad the old-fashioned way, at a high school dance. After being told by Dad that he was a year older than her and had his own car (none of which was true), she agreed to date him. Three years later, in 1952, they were married. As a couple, they could do anything. Together they built their home on Barton St. in Stoney Creek. Mom had a fear of heights which she overcame while shingling the roof. In her later years she even enjoyed a ride in a hot air balloon.
Once they had their home built, they decided to start a family. Son Glenn was born in 1957 followed by son Brent in 1959. Mom’s career as the β€œBest Mother in the World” began. Mom was involved in our school life as she became President of the Lake Avenue Home & School Association. A delicious meal was always waiting for us when we rushed home from school at lunch. Mom would often drive us back on snowy or rainy days in her little Austin until one day when the steering wheel came off in her hands. She loved to tell that story!
She trained and showed her Standard Poodle Coco at the Skyway Obedience Club and was an active member of the Stoney Creek Redcoats Camping Club, often serving on the executive. She was President of the local branch of the Calorie Counters of Canada for many years and looked forward to the annual convention with the girls. Mom loved football and was a huge Hamilton Tiger-Cats fan rarely missing a game. She was thrilled when, as a member of the Stoney Creek Baptist Church, she had an opportunity to meet several of the players. Mom never claimed to be an athlete, but she was always quick to tell us how great she was at bounce back paddle ball.
Mom loved gardening in her backyard and would strategically place her gnomes and other concrete ornaments around the yard, so many that it took Dad twice as long to cut the grass. She always made sure that the birdbath had fresh water and enjoyed watching the squirrels nesting in the squirrel house her father had made from a tree trunk.
Christmas was Mom’s most favourite time of the year! For years she would put up two trees while the rest of the house was decorated in loving Christmas style. Christmas is a time for family and family was very important to her.
A special thank you to her long-time caregiver and friend Dianne Hewer, with whom she found a special bond. They spent many enjoyable hours chatting and laughing together. Mom looked forward to her visits.
Family will be receiving friends at the Donald V. Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 1, 2025, followed by a service at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of a reception a donation will be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada. Interment at Woodland Cemetery in Burlington will immediately follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada or the Stoney Creek Baptist Church.
Mom, you were the β€œBest”. We will miss you dearly.
