WALTERS, Gordon – Peacefully at home October 2, 2015.
Gord was born August 26, 1936 in Goderich to William and Annie (Dufaure) Walters who predeceased him.
He is survived by his loving wife of almost 61 years, Winnie (Farrish); daughter Joanne, Goderich; son Bill (Janice), Guelph; son Steve (Judi), Goderich; grandson David, Guelph and granddaughters Saddie and Tori, Goderich.
Also survived by brother-in-law Don Farrish, Pinecrest Manor, Lucknow, sister-in-law Mary Ellen Gower-Farrish, Lucknow, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Predeceased by brothers-in-law Jack, George and Harold Farrish; sisters-in-law Mary, Dorothy, Wilma and Joyce Farrish; niece Marie (Farrish) Dignan; great-niece Ashley Farrish and great-nephew Travis Farrish.
Gord worked at the Sheaffer Pen Company, Goderich and later at the Goderich LCBO, retiring as manager at age 60.
In his younger years, he was a volunteer with the Goderich Fire Department and played on several baseball and hockey teams, including the Goderich Old Timers team that won the gold medal at an international hockey tournament in Switzerland in 1977.
He enjoyed woodworking and made many items for family, friends and charity auctions. He was a long-time Boston Bruins fan and a member of Knox Presbyterian Church and Legion Branch 109.
At Gord’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Cremation has taken place. Interment will be in Maitland at a later date. A celebration of Gord’s life will be held at Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 109, Goderich on Sunday, October 18 from 2-4 p.m.
