WALTING, Norman Stanley Watling

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our amazing husband, Dad, Papa, and friend to so many, Norman Stanley Watling.

Born in Sidney at Resthaven Hospital on April 12, 1944, Norman passed away at Victoria General Hospital on September 23, 2025 after battling COPD and lung cancer.

Dad was a true family man – devoted to Mom and his kids no matter where life took us as Mom’s career with the bank led us to new places.

Throughout his working life, Dad held many roles that reflected his dedication and strong work ethic. He was employed at Kelly Douglas in Victoria, operated Stan’s Food Centre in Sidney, managed the meat department at IGA in Fort Nelson, owned a butcher shop in Vanderhoof, worked as a representative for Farmet Food Distribution, and later as a meat cutter in Cranbrook and with B&C Foods in Saanichton, among other positions. His journeyman meat-cutting ticket was a great source of pride to him.

Dad also gave back to his community. He served as a volunteer firefighter in North Saanich and was a member of local Lions and Kinsmen Clubs. Mom and Dad also helped raise several foster children over the years.

He loved his family, his dogs, camping, fishing, and cooking – and was always ready with a great story from the past or a good joke to share. His special recipes were family favourites, made unforgettable by his secret ingredient: love. Everything Dad did was for Mom and for us. He always put others first, right up until the very last times he could speak.

Dad never realized just how many lives he touched or how much joy he brought to others. His passing has left a hole in our hearts, one filled with love, memories, and deep gratitude for the wonderful man he was.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 59 years, Lois (Myers); his son Michael (Karen); daughter Maureen (Mark) Jenkins; and three grandchildren, Cadel, Devon, and Keaton. He was predeceased by his parents, Stan and Marion, and his younger brother Brian. He is survived by his brother Don (Pat), sisters Sylvia (Monte) Gill and Joyce (Kelly) Preston, and many nieces and nephews.

As per Dad’s wishes, no service will be held. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honour his memory may consider supporting the BC Cancer Society or the Victoria Humane Society, something Dad would have truly appreciated.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.
