
Passed away peacefully with family by her side at Lakeridge Health Ajax, on Friday, May 9, 2025.
Pre-deceased by her parents, Evangeline (Evah) and Charles Ward, her brothers Ted, Bill and Jim, and her sister Joan.
Lovingly remembered by her many nieces, nephews and cousins, by her sisters-in-law, Beth and Margo, and by all of her friends. Mary had a long and rewarding career in a variety of roles including foster care, at the Toronto Children’s Aid Society and the Toronto Catholic Children’s Aid Society. She was loved and admired by her co-workers and enriched the lives of so many children and youth in Toronto throughout the years.
The family wishes to express thanks to the staff of Viva Retirement Community in Pickering, Bay Ridges Extendicare in Pickering, and Lakeridge Health Ajax for their devoted care to Mary during the past several years.
Traits: Gentle, calm and caring (qualities of her parents), Mary was an avid skier, and also loved spending time at her cottage on Lake Simcoe, and babysitting her nieces and nephews, and later their children. Her many other interests included traveling with friends and family, photography, art, spending time in her gardens, or relaxing with her cat.
Visitation: McEachnie Funeral Home, 28 Old Kingston Road, Ajax, Ontario L1T 2Z7 on Friday, May 16th, from 2 – 4 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m.
Funeral: McEachnie Funeral Home: Saturday, May 17, 11:00 a.m.
Interment will take place in Brechin, Ontario on Tuesday, May 20.
