WEISS, Mark Weiss
March 15, 1951 - January 29, 2026
It is with profound sadness that we would like to announce the unexpected passing of Mark Weiss, born on March 15, 1951. He lived with diabetes for many decades – but in recent months, this battle became more than he could handle. His passing came far too soon, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Mark was independent and free-spirited, with a unique presence that people noticed the moment he entered a room. He lived life on his own terms and valued authenticity, simplicity, and freedom. He found his greatest peace outdoorsβespecially sitting around a good campfire, where stories were shared, silences were comfortable, and time seemed to slow down.
Above all else, Mark was a devoted father and grandfather. He is survived by his two sons, Mathieu (Julie) and Nathan (Juliette), and his four beloved grandchildren, Gabriel, Erika, Carter, and Mila, who brought him immense pride and joy. His love for them was steady and unwavering, shown through his presence, his example, and the quiet ways he cared.
Mark is also survived by his siblings, Victor (May), Wolf (Josephine), and Monika. He was predeceased by his parents, Erika and Alfons, and by his brother, John, all of whom he now joins in rest.
Those who knew Mark will remember his calm strength, his individuality, and the way he made others feel at ease simply by being himself. His spiritβfree, grounded, and genuineβwill continue to live on through his family and the many lives he touched.
The family holds Torontoβs Sick Childrenβs Hospital near and dear to their hearts for the extraordinary work they do with their young patients. Those wishing to honor Markβs memory may do so by donating to SickKids. Alternatively, other causes Mark supported were Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) and Diabetes Canada.
The family will be holding a Celebration of Life in Mark’s honor in the spring. Details for this will be shared through his social media account as well as through friends and relatives.
Though his time with us feels far too short, Mark Weiss leaves behind a legacy of love, independence, and moments shared under open skies and firelight.
