With deep sorrow and enduring love, we announce the peaceful passing of Kimberley Ann Whelen (Ellyatt), who went to be with her Lord and Savior on the morning of July 23, 2025, while in her husband’s loving arms at home at the age of 66. Kimberley fought cancer to a draw.
Kimberley was the beloved wife of Michael Whelen, her devoted partner of 48 years. Theirs was a rare and abiding love—a marriage rooted in faith, tenderness, and quiet strength. They were not just companions through life’s journey, but soulmates whose devotion to one another was unwavering. “I have found the one whom my soul loves.” — Song of Solomon 3:4
She was the heart of her family—an extraordinary mother to her three daughters: Jodi Cauchi (Winston), Jennifer Riley (Daniel), and Sarah Wingert (Brendan). Her love lives on in her treasured grandchildren: Natalie and Jacqueline Cauchi, Danielle and Michael Riley, and Emily and Rebecca Wingert. She now reunites in Heaven with her beloved grandson, Gaberiel Riley. She also warmly welcomed Brianna Ruby, her bonus great-granddaughter.
Predeceased by her parents, Paul and Jeanne Ellyatt, Kimberley is lovingly remembered by Lia Ellyatt, her treasured and much-loved bonus mother. She is also survived by her dear brother Daniel Ellyatt (Rose) and their daughter Lianna, as well as many nieces and nephews—each of whom knew the gift of being loved by “Auntie Kim.” She is also lovingly remembered by her cousins, aunts, and uncles.
A woman of deep Christian faith, Kimberley lived with quiet grace, humility, and a spirit of service. Her home was a place of warmth and welcome, filled with laughter, gentle wisdom, and the comforting smell of her legendary breakfasts after sleepovers with her grandchildren—always featuring her famous peanut butter and banana toast. She had a gift for making everyone feel safe, seen, and completely loved.
She also leaves behind her beloved dogs, Penny and Suzie Q, loyal companions who brought her daily joy. As we mourn her passing, we give thanks for her life—a life beautifully lived, and a love that will continue to guide us. Her legacy is woven into every life she touched.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the emergency services personnel; Strathroy paramedics and police for their swift response and compassion during this difficult event.
