HANES, William “Bill” Purvis – Bill passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Lifecare Centre, Brantford on Thursday, December 24, 2015 at the age of 90 years.
Beloved wife of the late Norma (nee Hunter) (Feb.23, 2015).
Predeceased by his parents George and Wanda Hanes and by an infant son in 1948.
Dear father of Joyce Nisbet (Bruce), Ken and Faye, Janice Walker (Earl), Jim and Lorie, Anne Donkers (Frank), and Brenda Stewardson (Jeff). Loved grandfather of 15 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren and dear uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Survived by his sister-in-law Jean Hanes and predeceased by his sister Margaret McArthur (Lloyd) and brothers Frank and George (Dorothy).
Bill was a dairy farmer for over fifty years and was a master breeder of Holstein Canada and received the Wentworth County Farmer of the Year award in 1983.
He was an honourary member of the North Wentworth Ploughman’s Association and the Rockton Agricultural Society. He was a past Councillor of Beverly and Flamborough Townships and a member of the Ontario Racing Commission.
He was a member of Rockton United Church where donations can be made in his memory, or to the charity of your choice.
Friends may visit with the family at KITCHING, STEEPE & LUDWIG FUNERAL HOME, 146 Mill St. N., Waterdown on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. where the Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at 11 a.m. Interment to follow.
