WILLIAMS, Valerie Williams
December 18, 2025
Passed away peacefully, surrounded by all her children, at the Perth Great War Memorial Hospital on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at the age of 96. Valerie was predeceased in 2008 by her husband, David Williams. She was also predeceased by her twin brother, Peter and her stepbrother, John.
Born in London, England, in 1929, Valerie’s early life was defined by the resilience of her generation. As a young girl, she lived through the Blitz of London during World War II, an experience that forged her strength of character. Following the war, she pursued a calling in healthcare, training as a Registered Nurse in Brighton, England. It was during her nursing career in a London hospital that she met her future husband, David, while he was a patient under her care—the beginning of a life-long partnership.
In 1958, Valerie and David moved to Canada and settled in the Stamford area of Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. Valerie proudly continued her nursing career at the Greater Niagara General Hospital, where she served the community with compassion and professional skill for many years. She also obtained a degree in social work from Niagara College.
Valerie considered herself to be the Matriarch of her family. She was the mother of Richard (Lynda), Elisabeth (Daniel), Peter (Alexandra), and John (Judith), grandmother of Aaron, Sylvie, Rachel, Marianne, Anna, Barry, Caitlin, Adrian and Nickle, and great-grandmother of Presley, Maeve and River.
Valerie was a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church in Niagara Falls for over 60 years. Her presence in the pews was a Sunday morning fixture; she rarely missed a service, finding great strength and fellowship within her church community on Portage Road.
Beyond the church walls, Valerie was a tireless volunteer, dedicated to numerous community initiatives. She was deeply involved in the Latchkey program at the Church, the Alpha Anglican Church program, and was a passionate supporter of the Daval Hospice initiative.
Valerie came from a family of professional stage actors in London, and she carried that creative spark with her to Canada. A gifted singer and performer, Valerie was a dedicated member of the St. John’s Church Choir and the Jay Singers. She also took great joy in treading the boards herself, performing in several productions with the Fireside Theatre in Niagara Falls over the years.
In 2020, Valerie moved to Perth, Ontario, to be closer to family. During her years there, Elisabeth was nearby and able to advocate for her health care. Richard assisted her with financial matters in addition to regular visits.
The family extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Great War Memorial Hospital in Perth for their exceptional and compassionate care, ensuring Valerie was at peace and surrounded by love.
A Celebration of Life and Faith will be held at St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church (3428 Portage Rd., Niagara Falls) in the Spring or Summer of 2026. Further details and a specific date will be announced at that time. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Stamford Green Heritage Columbarium, St. John the Evangelist (Stamford), or St. James Perth
