WONG, Sam Yung Fu Wong
July 2, 1929 - January 24, 2026With deep sadness, we share the peaceful passing of Sam Yung‑Fu Wong on January 24, 2026, at the age of 96. He was the beloved husband of Lucy, devoted father of Marion, Elizabeth (Andrew Lam), Samuel (Pamela), Bertrand (Peggie), and Kenneth (Anita), and the cherished grandfather of Jennifer, Jeremy, Justin, Alyssa, Jacqueline, Brian, Austin, and Adrian. His long life touched three generations, each one shaped by his steadiness and love.
Sam lived with a quiet dignity—never seeking attention, yet always earning respect. He carried himself with humility and grace, offering kindness not as an act but as a way of being. He was a gentle presence with a generous spirit, offering warmth and humour that wove him into the lives of friends and their families, creating bonds that lasted decades.
Sam received his early education at Royden House in Hong Kong, where he formed friendships that lasted a lifetime. In 1951, he left for Manitoba to continue his studies, eventually settling in Halifax. It was there that he met his wife, Lucy, and where their first four children were born. In 1965, Sam returned to Hong Kong to begin a long and respected career in securities and finance. Nearly two decades later, in 1984, Sam and his wife returned to Canada to reunite with their children and begin a well‑earned retirement chapter surrounded by family.
His service with the Tung Wah Hospital Group and his leadership at the Canadian Club in Hong Kong reflected a belief he lived every day: that community begins at home, and that charity is an act of the heart. Through example rather than words, he taught his children and grandchildren that a meaningful life is built through service, humility, and care for others.
Family and friends are invited to visit the North Toronto Crematorium, 2 Stalwart Industrial Drive, Gormley, on Wednesday, February 4th, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. A funeral service will follow at 11:30 a.m., with cremation afterward. A reception will be held at Legend Restaurant, 5 Glen Cameron Road, Thornhill, where stories, memories, and laughter will honour the life he lived so well.
May his gentle spirit continue to guide us, and may the love he gave so freely live on in all whom he touched.
