WYLLIE, Jon Alan Wyllie
December 15, 2025
Jon Alan Wyllie passed away peacefully on December 15, 2025, in the Palliative Care unit of Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital.
Born in Boston, Jon grew up in Wrentham, Massachusetts. His father, Hugh Wyllie, passed when Jon was very young, and he was raised by his mother, Hilda Julin, and his four older brothers. He earned a degree in Electronics Engineering from Northeastern University in 1969 while serving as an engine room Fireman with the US Coast Guard Reserve from 1958 to 1966.
Jon married in 1965 and became a proud father to his two sons β Andrew, born in Boston, and Christopher, born in Toronto after the family relocated.
Jon held a life-long interest in technology and advanced design. In the late 1960s, his career focused on the computer technology vanguard in Waltham MA, working at Honeywell Inc. After moving to Canada, he spent 10 years as a technical sales specialist in the carbon graphite division at Union Carbide travelling to major clients throughout Ontario and northern Quebec. In the mid-80s, he pivoted his career into the rapidly expanding Canadian mutual fund industry, retrained as a Financial Advisor, and spent 30 years in the industry building long-term relationships with his clients that often became lasting friendships, before retiring in 2017.
Outside work, Jonβs interests were wide-ranging and often eclectic, including cutting edge technology, macroeconomics, precious metals, Porsches, auto racing, beer, and travel. He had a deep appreciation for music, particularly contemporary jazz, and he delighted in sharing his knowledge of musicians and recordings.
Jon led an active life. He was a well-respected ski instructor at the Voyageurs Ski Club and taught his sons to ski, which led to many boysβ skiing trips to his favourite ski destination, the Rustler Lodge in Alta, Utah. An avid tennis player and golfer, Jon maintained a regular year-round gym routine well into his 80s.
Since the late-80s, Jon lived in Torontoβs Annex and Yorkville neighbourhoods. He loved Toronto and loved living in the heart of the city, often going on long hikes with his close friends to discover its many neighbourhoods and landmarks.
Jon was predeceased by his parents, his older brothers Robert, Lloyd, David, and Edwin, and his beloved cat JoJo. He will be missed by his sons, Andrew (Lisa) and Christopher (Francesca), by his grandchildren Adrian, Alex, and Sierra, his many nieces and nephews, and his community of friends, especially those who gathered at Kiwi Corner at Hemingwayβs and around his favourite front seat at The Oxley. He will be remembered as a gentleman β easy-going, soft-spoken, and quintessentially cool.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the extraordinary teams at Mount Sinai Hospital (Team B, 10 South), Princess Margaret Hospital, and especially the Palliative Care team (10 North) at Hennick Bridgepoint Hospital, whose kindness and compassion in their care for Jon meant so much to us. A private gathering to remember Jon will be held later in 2026.
