It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Zofia Zielinski, affectionately known as Babcia to all who knew her, on August 11, 2025. Born in Poland, she led a fulfilled life for 98 years. She emigrated to Canada with her young family, where she and her late husband, Jozef, became the proud co-owners of Continental Deli in the Ottawa ByWard Market until their retirement.

Babcia passed peacefully, surrounded by her immediate family, a reflection of the deep love that she passed along to everyone. She was predeceased by her husband, Jozef, and leaves behind her cherished children, Zenek (Sherri) and Lucy. Babcia’s legacy of love continues through her treasured grandchildren Niki (Robbie), Cody, Braedi (Sam), and Kelsie (Blake), and her adored great-grandchildren Bennett and Myles, who absolutely idolized their Babcia. She will also be missed by her many nieces and nephews in Canada and Poland.

Known for her warmth, generosity, and strong spirit, Babcia touched the lives of everyone she met. Her grandchildren always looked forward to visits at her house and enjoyed her great cooking and baking. Her family and friends will forever remember her for the love she continuously shared.

The family would like to thank the Ottawa General Hospital, especially Dr. Isabelle Desjardins, for her care during her last days. Also, a special thank you to all the staff at Stonehaven Retirement Home for making Zofia’s last years enjoyable and for the excellent care provided to her.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to a charity of your choice. As per the family’s wishes, the funeral service and interment will be private.
