McRAE, Winifred 'Winnie' Josephine (Watson) - (July 8, 1917 - October 28, 2015)
Winnie passed away peacefully at Hillsdale Terraces, Oshawa on Wednesday, October 28, 2015, in her 99th year.
Winnie is preceded by her husband, James “Jim” Duncan McRae, and greatly missed by their children Phil (Janice) McRae, Anna (Thomas) Muss, and Beth (Ron) Sheyan, their grandchildren Scott (Rebecca), Laura (Felix), Christopher (Jennifer), Johanna (Michael), David (Jennifer), and Catherine, and their great-grandchildren, Carson, Isaac, Eben, Liam, Ahna, Lucy, Kiefer, and Iris.
The only child of Anna Rachel Lockwood and Fredrick Errol Watson, Winnie was born in Toronto, Ontario and raised by her mother and maternal grandmother, Mabel Josephine (Hyuck) Lockwood in Brighton, Ontario.
After she graduated from Oshawa General Hospital School of Nursing, Winnie and Jim married in 1939 and settled in Oshawa to raise their family. Winnie loved spending summers at the cottage in Presqu’ile Provincial Park; a tradition her family is pleased to continue.
A self-educated naturalist and avid birder, Winnie was one of the founding members of the Oshawa Naturalists Club in the 1950s (now the Durham Region Field Naturalists). She was a dedicated bridge player, an accomplished knitter, intricate cane-chair weaver, sewing expert, best-chocolate-cake-ever baker, and wonderful landscape painter. She will be missed most for her optimism, endless patience, and thoughtful kindness.
The family would like to express its appreciation for the wonderful, loving care Winnie received from the staff at Hillsdale Terraces. Thank you.
Relatives and friends may call at McINTOSH-ANDERSON-KELLAM FUNERAL HOME LTD., 152 King Street East, Oshawa (905-433-5558) on Saturday, October 31st from 12:00 pm until time of service, in the chapel, at 1:00 pm. Private family interment to take place at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.
