Cornish FlorenceCORNISH, Florence Patricia (nee PETLOVANY)   -  On Tuesday, June 28, 2022 Florence Patricia Cornish, passed peacefully in her sleep after nearly 100 incredible years of living life to the fullest.

A strong, and well-spoken woman throughout her life; she set an example for her family, her children and everyone around her by her independence, unwavering work ethic, and zest for life.

Florence lived through many monumental times of change - wars, the women's rights movement, the great depression and an ever-developing world.

She grew up on the family farm in Newmarket, Ontario, one of 11 children, to European parents.

She shared many stories of those days, but never forgot when during the depression, her dad and mom would set up a picnic table alongside the CN rail line that bordered their farm to feed the men when the trains would slow down, many who would jump off looking for food and work.

It was not surprising when she announced to her parents that she had joined the Canadian Women's Army Corps, to give back and serve in whatever capacity she could for her country, Canada, having given so much to her family.

She never stopped doing the things she loved most - writing, teaching, painting, travelling and being a mother and grandmother.

She believed in staying honest to yourself and the people you love, through the grace of God. Florence had a contagious smile and a laugh she loved to share often with her family and friends.

She had an intense love, and is survived by her two children, Wayne (Darcey) and Terry (Steve); and grandchildren, Samantha, Randi, Shelsey, and Krystyna; and the family dog, Oreo, who was always by her side when visiting; and her very best friend, Nini.

We are grateful for the past several years Florence spent at The Beechwood, Mississauga, and the care and comfort from the wonderful staff and nurses there and from Home and Community Care, and Bayshore Home Health, during her final days, and Aftercare Cremation and Burial Services.

A Celebration of Life will be held in September at a Royal Canadian Legion.
