Speirs Dr RosemarySPEIRS, Dr. Rosemary Ellen Jane   -  On Friday, August 12, 2022, Dr. Rosemary Ellen Jane Speirs, passed away peacefully, in Ottawa, Ontario.

She is survived by her son, Murray Deverell; granddaughter, Leona; and brother, Gordon Speirs.

Born in Toronto, Ontario, November 27, 1940, to Ray and Rose Speirs, Rosemary had a distinguished career in journalism.

She held the position of Queen's Park Bureau Chief for the Globe and Mail, and Ottawa Bureau Chief and National Columnist for the Toronto Star.

While challenging gender barriers within the industry, Rosemary was able to highlight social and environmental issues in Canada.

After Rosemary's career in journalism, she turned her attention to political activism and environmental protection, becoming the founding chair of Equal Voice: Electing More Women in Canada in 2001, and President of the Board for Ontario Nature.

Both causes were dear to her heart. The family will be hosting a Celebration of Life in both Toronto and Ottawa. Friends and former colleagues are welcome to attend.
