HALLIDAY, Gerda - Gerda, of Barrie, ON, at the age of 79, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2023, at home with family by her side, after battling cancer courageously.
She is survived by her children, Jeffery (Kathleen), Mark (Ashley), Kevin (Marni) and Kristen (Adam); grandchildren, Tess, Ella, Ben, Hannah, and Owen; sister, Chris (Derek); and brother, Ken (Jennifer).
Predeceased by parents, Joyce and Charlie Goodbrand; and sister, Marlene.
Gerda spent her early years in the Yukon before moving to Toronto for high school.
She trained as a nurse at Toronto Western Hospital before taking on her favourite role as a mother to her children.
Later in life, she embraced her career, working for many years as a nurse in a family physician's office in Barrie. As an avid hiker, environmentalist, gardener, book club member, ukulele player, world traveller, bicycle enthusiast, and family matriarch, Gerda did everything with an unbelievable smile, and a zest for living a life on her terms.
A Celebration of Life will take place at the Midhurst United Church, on April 29, 2023, at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Gerda will be accepted in her name to the Barrie Public Library.
